About the 2024 Street Whale

The Street Whale 2024 will take place from December 4 to 7, 2024, in Kribi. The Street Whale is an annual event aimed at promoting the protection of our ocean and its biodiversity in Cameroon while developing sustainable management strategies for marine and coastal resources.

Indeed, AMMCO encourages synergies among the actors operating along the Cameroonian coastline, raises awareness about the importance of the marine-coastal environment, improves scientific knowledge, and assesses the threats facing this important ecosystem. It is in this spirit that AMMCO initiated the Street Whale event in 2021, in collaboration with local and international partners.

Objectives of the event.

  • Consolidate synergy between the stakeholders of Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystem;
  • Raise awareness among participants and the public on the threats facing Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystems and the need to preserve and manage them sustainably;
  • Bring together sub-regional and international stakeholders to share experience on topic related to citizen sciences, elasmobranchs, and the Atlantic humpback dolphin.
  • Capacity-building and knowledge-sharing among the various stakeholders exercising in Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystems, including government stakeholders, scientists, coastal community leaders, civil society organizations, and industries;

Planned activities.

The event will combine science, art, and sports. It will revolve around workshops and scientific presentations, sharing sessions with local and international stakeholders, artistic performances (music, dance, and painting), sports activities (including beach volleyball, arm wrestling, and a football match), the construction of a monument, and beach cleanup campaigns.
