About the Street Whale

The Street Whale is a vibrant initiative that merges art, science, and sports to champion the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources in Cameroon. By engaging local and international communities through a blend of scientific workshops, beach clean-ups, and exhilarating sporting events, we aim to inspire a generation of ocean stewards. Our mission is clear: to raise awareness about the threats facing our marine ecosystems and to foster innovative solutions. By bringing together governments, businesses, and local communities, we are building a united front to protect our oceans for future generations. In 2024, The Street Whale is taking things to the next level with:

- Science in the Spotlight: Delve into cutting-edge marine research through interactive workshops, roundtables, and symposiums.

- A Symphony for the Sea: Experience the power of music as top Cameroonian artists take to the stage for an unforgettable concert.

- Sports for the Ocean: Join us for a variety of thrilling sporting events, all while contributing to beach clean-ups at Ngoye.

Objectives

  • Consolidate synergies between the stakeholders of Cameroon's and central African marine and coastal ecosystem
  • Raise awareness among participants and the public on the threats facing Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystems and the need to preserve and manage them sustainably
  • Bring together sub-regional and international stakeholders to share experience on topics related to citizen sciences, IUU fishing, elasmobranchs, sea turtles and the Atlantic humpback dolphin
  • Capacity-building and knowledge-sharing among the various stakeholders exercising in Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystems, including government stakeholders, scientists, coastal community leaders, civil society organizations, and industries.
